How to prep for your boudoir session.

It all begins with an idea.

Booking a boudoir shoot is an exciting, empowering, confidence-building experience. But it can also be a little intimidating. To help you feel better prepared we’ve developed some tips covering everything from what to wear and how to prep to what you can expect from professional hair and makeup.

What to Wear for Your Boudoir Shoot

Choosing the right outfits is one of the best ways to boost your confidence before your session. We send each of our clients a personalized outfit guide after booking to walk you through the spaces you’ll be shooting in, how to best match your outfits to each space, and brand recommendations to align to various aesthetics. If you’re still not sure on the day of the shoot, bring options! We can help select which outfits will work best with each space, or even try a few to see what feels best.

Prioritize Fit Over Everything

The secret to flattering photos is a great fit. Choose pieces that hug you comfortably and showcase the features you love most. If something digs, slips, twists, or needs adjusting every few minutes, it’ll distract you during your shoot.

Bring a Mix of Textures

Textures like lace, satin, and velvet photograph beautifully and elevate your final gallery.

How to Prep Before Your Session

A little preparation goes a long way. Think of this as treating yourself, not adding tasks to your to-do list.

1. Hydrate + Rest

Drink plenty of water and get good sleep the night before. It makes your skin glow and keeps your energy high for the camera.

2. Moisturize Your Skin

Your hair and makeup artist will take care of skin prep the day of the shoot, but it’s always helpful to start with a good canvas. Soft, hydrated skin helps your makeup lay beautifully and gives you a healthy finish. Avoid trying new products right before your session.

3. Schedule Grooming Appointments (But Only If You Want To)

If you plan to wax, spray tan, or get your nails make sure to book your appointments done a few days ahead so everything has time to settle. But remember: nothing here is required. Natural is stunning.

4. Eat Normally

Between hair and makeup, outfit changes, and shooting, sessions usually last about four hours so make sure to eat in advance!

What to Expect with Professional Hair & Makeup

One of the biggest confidence boosters for your boudoir shoot is professional hair and makeup. ll you have to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy some coffee or a mimosa while getting pampered. We’ll throw on a playlist with your favorite music while you get ready to keep the energy high.
